What do we know – Marvel’s The Eternals (Release date, Cast, Trailer)

With everything going on in the world right now, we definitely need some Marvel magic. No one does superhero movies like Marvel and they know it. With MCU Phase 3 ending last year, Marvel announced the next Phase of MCU, starting with Black Widow and The Eternals right after. So what do we know about Marvel’s The Eternal?

Jack Kirby, the artist behind many of Marvel’s most famous heroes and villains, created The Eternals. The Eternals are a group of ancient, cosmic superpower beings living on Earth. They could be considered gods, they have the ability to combine their different powers, which are really handy when they come face-to-face with their mortal enemies, the Deviants.

While MCU has conquered many space adventure, The Eternal will be a new as it is post-Iron Man and post-Captain America. We could even say that it is the actual start of MCU Phase 4 but do not quote us on that. So now that we have covered the basics, what do we know about Marvel’s The Eternal:

Release Date

Due to COVID19, The Eternal’s debut was pushed back to February 12, 2021. And let’s all hope that it doesn’t get pushed back any further.

The Cast

There is a huge line up for this movie. We have Angelina Jolie, who’ll play warrior Eternal Thena; Richard Madden, Superman substitute Ikaris; Kumail Nanjiani is Kingo, a master swordsman whose alter-ego is a Bollywood star; Brian Tyree Henry as super-intelligent inventor Phastos; Don Lee as super-strong Gilgamesh and Barry Keoghan as Druig.

This has to be the most diverse MCU cast with some characters from the Eternal comics being swapped from male to female. We also have Gemma Chan as matter-manipulating Sersi (she was in Captain Marvel); Salma Hayek as a powerful leader Ajak; Lauren Ridloff as super fast Makkari and Lia McHugh as Sprite, an Eternal who looks like a child.

We do not know who will be playing the Deviant yet but we will definitely keep our eyes peeled for more information. The Eternals is directed by Chloe Zhao.

The Trailer

There isn’t a sign of a trailer yet but as we are getting into the second half of 2020, Marvel Studios and Disney would definitely want to put something out there. Usually, Marvel showcases new content/ information at San Diego Comic-Con but the event has been cancelled but maybe, just maybe, the teaser for The Eternals will debut at visual Comic-Con@Home. So we might actually get to see something the weekend of July 22-26.

How does The Eternals fit into MCU’s chronology?

Do note that the dates have been shifted due to COVID19

We know that the upcoming Black Widow movie happens a few years before Avengers: Infinity War/ Endgame. According to the movie’s official synopsis, it says that The Eternals will pick up after Avenger’s fight with Thanos. It says,

“Marvel Studios’ The Eternals features an exciting new team of Super Heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s most ancient enemy, The Deviants.”

So the big question is where were they when our favourite superheroes were fighting Thanos? Well, we will only know once we watch the movie and we can’t wait for it to be released!
