How to Get Rid of Dark Circles

Dark circles are the worst. Other than making you look tired, it also makes you look older than your age and unhealthy too. These dark circles appears due to constricted blood vessels causing hyperpigmentation or from thinning of the skin around the eyes.

The following are the causes of the dark circles:

  • lack of sleep/ poor sleeping habits

Elevation

When you sleep, try to add extra pillows under your head. This can help with the puffiness of fluid pooling in your lower eyelids.

Tea bags (caffeinated tea)

It helps with the dark circles as it contains caffeine. Caffeine has antioxidant properties and it helps to stimulate blood circulation around the eyes. You can use black, green or herbal tea bags.

You can soak the tea bags in warm water, then chill it in the refrigerator. Few minutes later, place them on each eye and rinse with cold water.

Cucumbers

You can apply thick sliced cucumbers on your eyes to soothe and reduce swelling. Cucumbers have high water and vitamin c content that may help to moisturise the skin. Leave those slices on for 10 minutes twice a day.

Eye creams

To lighten the dark areas, you can use eye creams religiously to see the effects. Pick eye creams based on your skin type as well as the appropriate ingredients.


Although having dark circles isn’t a health concern, you may want them to be gone for cosmetic reasons. do keep in mind that there are also other factors such as age, ethnicity and lifestyle.

These home remedies may help treat dark circles but you have to do your part by maintain a healthy lifestyle with quality sleep, balanced diet and proper hydration as it may prevent dark circles from appearing.
