6 Reasons why Netflix’s ‘Hospital Playlist’ is a must-watch

You’ve heard of Crash Landing on You and The King: Eternal Monarch but have you heard of Hospital Playlist. It is a Korean drama with a stealthily gaining popularity with a hit writer-director team. Let’s not forget about the amazing cast. Add these together and a great drama series is born. With only 12 episodes, lesser than your average Korean drama but every episode is worth your time. If you need more reasons to watch Hospital Playlist, here are 6 reasons why you should watch it:

  1. The Characters

The series is centred around five friends that are just so lovable. They have different personalities even though they are good doctors who cars about their patients. Lee Ik-jun (played by Cho Jung-seok) is the life of the party and super hilarious. Ahn Jeong-won (played by Yoo Yeon- seok) is an angel, but he’s surprisingly petty. Chae Song-hwa (played by Jeon Mi-do) is level-headed and a camping geek. Kim Jun-wan (Jung Kyung-ho) is very blunt, but is actually pretty sweet. Yang Seok-hyeong (Kim Dae-myeung) is awkward, but quite considerate. Of course this isn’t everyone, there are many endearing charters inside and outside the hospital. You just can’t help but to fall in love with each and every one of them.

2. The Friendships

You will see the friendships between the main casts, some of them going on for more than 20 years. Childhood friends, Ik-jun and Jun-wan, Jeong-won and Seok-hyeong and watch how all of the guys have crushes on Song-hwa. Maybe their feelings go beyond that of a crush. The friends are always there for each other, a cancer scare, a divorce, or has a sick family member. They are always there for each other.

3.  Not Your Typical Medical K-drama

Medical dramas could be a little overdramatic. Hospital Playlist is anything but overdramatic. There are hospital politics and no bad guy hospital director. The medical emergencies are not over the top and there’s no unnecessary panic in the hospital. Patient storylines don’t extend for too long, and the characters have lives outside of the hospital.

4. There’s a Band

The five friends re-starts their band. That means a new song every episode!! How many K-dramas do you know does this. The actors actually either learnt to play an instrument or already knew how to play them Great music and you get to watch the friends spend time together outside of the hospital. There’s a lot of nostalgia as they perform songs they enjoyed in their youth.

5. The Humour

There is a great balance of light comedy and heavy moments in the series. Did you see the Darth Vader helmet glue incident that was really funny. Humour comes from the characters, circumstances, and interactions. Cameos also offer some comedic opportunities. You can’t help but to laugh along with the characters or laughs at the characters.

6.  Not Predictable

You get to know each character and how they live their lives. You may be thinking that there will be a predictable love line but the show actually surprises you with different love lines. You will be caught off guard with events that feel sudden since the whole picture isn’t laid out. As you watch the series, try and make some guess and see if your guesses are accurate.

  1. I loved this series and so happy there will be a season 2 as there are quite a few cliffhangers out there in regards to relationships. Well acted, written and definitely tugs at your heartstrings in so many ways.
Had watched Prison Playbook recently and also loved it, funny, heartwarming as well.
