We are so glad that festivals all around the world are thinking of ways on how they can move their events online. K-pop fans around the world celebrate was the annual KCON festival is going online. KCON is the world’s largest Korean Culture convention. KCON has held festivals in Japan, Thailand, France, Australia, Mexico and the USA. It has provided a place for K-pop/ Hallyu fans of anything and everything Korean to connect with each other and their favourite Korean artists.
As both their KCON 2020 NY and KCON 2020 LA were cancelled due to COVID19, KCON has announced its collaboration with YouTube and Shopee for this 2020 event, KCON:TACT 2020 SUMMER. It will be streamed live for an entire week June 20 – June 26. The event concisest of both live performances and pre-taped ones. A digital meet and greet and behind the scenes footages.
So how do you join in on the online festivities? KCON:TACT 2020 SUMMER is available as a membership subscription.For $19.99/ month on Mnet K-pop YouTube channel with English subtitles. A portion of the proceeds will go to UNESCO’s Learning Never Stops campaign.
Each day of the festival consist of a 4-hour long live concert along with artist meet and greets and behind the scene footages. The meet and greet would most probably include live chats, polls and usage of VR and AR technology. And for fans who have a bias they always follow, KCON plans to provide multiple views of the performances so fans can get specific views of their bias.

Unfortunately for us Singaporeans, the livestream on YouTube will not be available to us unless you have a VPN. But we can catch the event through Shopee as their first ever Shopee Live K-pop Fest. No details have been released yet but do check the Shopee app on June 8 for more information.
