JK Rowling, the author of Harry Potter, has released a new book for children called The Inkabog. In hopes of entertaining children during this COVID19 lockdown. She emphasises that the new story is not a Harry Potter spin off of any sort. But a “stand-alone fairy tale”.
Rowling mentioned that she started writing The Inkabog while she was completing the Harry Potter series. And wanted to publish it at the same time as the final Harry Potter book. However, she decided not to.She wanted to concentrate on writing books for adults and to take a break from publishing.
“‘The Ickabog’ is a story about truth and the abuse of power,” Rowling wrote in the note on her website. “To forestall one obvious question: the idea came to me well over a decade ago, so it isn’t intended to be read as a response to anything that’s happening in the world right now. The themes are timeless and could apply to any era or any country.”
Rowling also mentioned that the royalties when the book is published will be donated to “groups who’ve been particularly impacted by the pandemic”. She is also encouraging children from the age of 7-12 to participate in a contest for illustrations that would be included in the print and e-book edition of the story. What a great way to keep children entertained during this pandemic.
The print, ebook and audiobook editions of The Inkabog will be released in November. Or you can read some of the released chapters here.
