We Are One: Global Film Festival to release free films on YouTube

Ever since COVID19, many scheduled conventions and festivals were forced to cancel or postponed to 2021. As a result, many organisers had to find creative ways to deliver their planned events. And so, the superhero of 2020 is the internet! YouTube has teamed up with 20 top film festivals. Not 1 but 20 to create We Are One: A Global Film Festival that is happening on May 29.

We Are One is a 10 day digital film festival where you are able to catch free feature films, shorts, documentaries, music, comedy and panel discussions. The best part? No annoying advertisements!

The list of organisations involved in curating We Are One: the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Berlin International Film Festival, BFI London Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival, Guadalajara International Film Festival, International Film Festival & Awards Macao (IFFAM), Jerusalem Film Festival, Mumbai Film Festival (MAMI), Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, Locarno Film Festival, Marrakech International Film Festival, New York Film Festival, San Sebastian International Film Festival, Sarajevo Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, Sydney Film Festival, Tokyo International Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival, Venice Film Festival, and more are all part of the curation team.

We Are One will benefit the World Health Organisation and local relief organizations and encourage views to donate to COVID19 relief efforts. There isn’t a list of movies released to let us know what would be shown but a full schedule will be released closer to the event.

YouTube’s chief business officer, Robert Kyncl, had this to say about the event, “One of the most unique and inspiring aspects of the world staying home is our ability to come together and experience an event as one, and We Are One: A Global Film Festival is just that”. You would be able to catch the event here once it is out on May 29.

In the meantime, Pangdemonium is streaming ‘Chinglish’ online for free on Vimeo! Catch our local theatre in action.
